Stepping Into Our Physical Wellness

In today’s fast-paced world, we are surrounded by hyper-processed, quick-fix solutions. We are overbooked, overworked, stretched thin on budgets, and challenged with our weight. The demands of our schedules, our responsibilities, and the stress we endure lead us to neglect proper meal planning, making drive-throughs and deliveries our go-to choices.

The Reality

The statistics are alarming. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), as of 2020, about 73.6% of U.S. adults aged 20 and over are either overweight or obese. Specifically, 42.4% of adults fall into the category of obesity. The issue extends to our youth as well, with approximately 19.7% of children and adolescents aged 2-19 years being classified as obese—affecting about 14.7 million young lives.

Obesity isn’t just about appearance; it’s linked to a host of serious health issues, including heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes, and certain cancers. These obesity-related conditions are among the leading causes of preventable, premature death in the US. The financial burden is also significant, with the estimated annual medical cost of obesity in the U.S. reaching $173 billion in 2019. Individuals with obesity face medical costs that are nearly $1,900 higher than those at a healthy weight.

Over the past few decades, obesity rates have climbed steadily, with adult obesity rising from 30.5% in 2000 to 42.4% in 2020. As a health coach, I encounter these realities daily—not just with my clients, but in my own life as well. My journey into health coaching was born from my personal struggles and experiences, and this fuels my passion to help others navigate the toxic food landscape we face today.

Our metabolism is a key player in our overall health. It’s the body’s engine, converting food into energy that fuels everything we do—from movement to thinking to growth. Metabolism impacts our energy levels, weight, hormone balance, body temperature, muscle and bone health & digestion. It effects cardiovascular health, the aging process, immune function, and even our mental well-being. In short, it influences nearly every aspect of our health It is essential to maintain a healthy metabolism for overall well-being.
